3. On March 18, 1865, Confederate forces attacked New Bern, North Carolina, which was occupied by Union troops that included the 37th Infantry Regiment from New Jersey. The Union soldiers successfully repelled the attack.

4. Newark Liberty International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the country, was officially dedicated on March 18, 1928, as Newark Metropolitan Airport. It was renamed Newark International Airport in 1935 and then Newark Liberty International Airport in 2002.

5. The first intercollegiate basketball game was played in New Jersey on March 18, 1895, between Hamline University and the School of Coaching YMCA in Trenton. Hamline won the game 9-3.
