3. In 1910, the Virginia General Assembly passed a law establishing the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which was designed to promote and support agriculture in the state. This department is still active today and oversees various programs related to farming and food safety.

4. On March 19, 1969, Virginia Governor Mills Godwin signed a bill repealing the state's ban on interracial marriage. This move came after years of legal challenges, including the landmark Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia, which struck down state laws prohibiting interracial marriage nationwide.

5. In 1996, the Virginia Lottery launched its first instant-win scratch-off game, called "Match 3". This game was an immediate success, with more than $3 million in sales in its first week of availability. The Virginia Lottery has since expanded to include many other games, including Powerball and Mega Millions.
