1. On March 2, 1777, the first Kentucky county was established. Kentucky County was created out of the western portion of Fincastle County, Virginia.

3. March 2, 1865, marked the final day of the Battle of Hatcher's Run during the Civil War. Union forces led by Major General Gouverneur K. Warren defeated Confederate forces led by General John B. Gordon.
4. On March 2, 1932, the infamous "Scottsboro Boys" trial began in Scottsboro, Alabama. Nine black teenagers had been falsely accused of raping two white women on a train traveling through Alabama. The case garnered national attention, and some of the defendants were later sent to prison in Kentucky.
5. Finally, on March 2, 1964, the Muhammad Ali (then known as Cassius Clay) defeated Sonny Liston to become the world heavyweight boxing champion. Ali, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, went on to become one of the greatest boxers of all time.
