1. Texas declared its independence from Mexico on March 2, 1836. This day is now celebrated as Texas Independence Day.

2. March 2, 1845, marked the day that Texas was annexed to the United States as the 28th state. This event brought an end to the Republic of Texas and marked the beginning of a new chapter in Texas history.

3. On March 2, 1877, the Texas State Capitol building was completed after seven years of construction. This iconic building still stands today as a symbol of Texas pride and government.

4. In 1917, the Texas State Bridge Authority was established on March 2. This organization was responsible for the construction and maintenance of many of the bridges that still carry Texans across the state's rivers and waterways.

5. March 2 is also the birthday of one of Texas' most famous residents, Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. Though he was born in Massachusetts, many Texans still celebrate his life and contributions to children's literature on this day.
