1. Nebraska became a state on March 1, 1867, but it was not until March 25, 1867, that the first session of the Nebraska Legislature was held in the newly constructed State Capitol building in Lincoln.

2. On March 25, 1924, the town of Loup City, Nebraska, received national attention when the Nebraska State Journal reported on a mysterious crime that had occurred there. The crime, which involved an unidentified corpse buried in a cornfield, would go unsolved for years and become known as the "Loup City Mystery."

March 25, 1937, marked the beginning of the Union Pacific Railroad's "Streamliner" service, which ran between Chicago and San Francisco with stops in Nebraska cities such as Omaha and North Platte. The Streamliner trains were the height of luxury and comfort for their time, featuring air conditioning, reclining seats, and other modern amenities.

4. In 1952, a Nebraska-based organization called "Voice of America" began broadcasting radio programs in the Russian language to countries behind the Iron Curtain. On March 25, 1953, one of the organization's most prominent broadcasters, Lev Soloviov, was arrested by Soviet authorities in Moscow and charged with espionage. He was eventually released in a prisoner exchange in 1962.

5. March 25, 2016 was a historic day for the Nebraska Cornhuskers football program, as the team's new head coach, Mike Riley, held his first spring practice with the team. Riley was hired to replace longtime coach Bo Pelini, and his arrival signaled a new era of Nebraska football.
