1. The United States Army established Fort Dilts on March 25, 1874, near the present-day town of Powers Lake. The fort served as a base for the United States Army during the Indian Wars.

2. The city of Minot was founded on March 25, 1887, when the Great Northern Railway arrived in the area. The city was named after Henry D. Minot, a railroad investor.

3. On March 25, 1907, the North Dakota Legislature passed a law requiring that all vehicles be registered with the Secretary of State. This law was one of the first motor vehicle registration laws in the United States.

5. The University of North Dakota men's hockey team won its eighth national championship on March 25, 2016, defeating Quinnipiac University 5-1 in the Frozen Four championship game. The UND Fighting Hawks have one of the most successful hockey programs in the history of college hockey.
