1. In 1852, the first stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized in Brigham City, Utah. A stake is similar to a Catholic diocese and is made up of numerous congregations.
2. In 1874, Utah's Territorial Legislature passed a bill establishing Weber State University as a public institution. It began as Weber Stake Academy in 1889 and became a state college in 1933 before earning university status in 1991.
3. In 1900, the first permanent Jewish congregation in Salt Lake City, B'nai Israel, was founded. The synagogue building which housed the congregation for many years is now home to the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art.
4. In 1953, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a bill establishing the Dugway Proving Ground in Tooele County. The military installation tests chemical and biological weapons, as well as other defense technologies.
5. In 2007, the famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir changed its name to the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. The choir was organized in the mid-19th century and is known for its stunning a cappella performances.
