1. On March 3, 1863, an important battle took place during the American Civil War in Bentonville, Arkansas. Kansas soldiers from the 2nd and 6th cavalry regiments played a significant role in this battle and helped secure a Union victory.

2. The infamous Dalton Gang attempted to rob two banks simultaneously in Coffeyville, Kansas on March 3, 1892. However, the townspeople were alerted to the robbery and a fierce gun battle ensued resulting in the death of four of the gang members and four of the town's citizens.

3. In 1955, Kansas became the first state to enact a law requiring that all new cars must have seat belts as standard equipment. This law took effect on March 3, 1963, and helped pave the way for other states to follow suit.

4. On March 3, 1985, the Kansas City Kings played their last game in Kansas City before moving to Sacramento. The Kings had been an NBA franchise in Kansas City since 1972 and were popular among basketball fans in the region.

5. The famous abolitionist John Brown was born on March 3, 1800, in Torrington, Connecticut. Brown played a significant role in the Bleeding Kansas conflict and is best known for his raid on the federal arsenal at Harper's Ferry in 1859, which he hoped would inspire a slave rebellion. Brown was captured, tried for treason, and executed on December 2, 1859.
