1. On March 30, 1856, a group of handcart pioneers from England arrived in Salt Lake City. Despite severe winter weather and dwindling supplies, the group managed to make it to their destination, setting a precedent for future pioneer groups.

2. The University of Utah was founded on March 30, 1850 as the University of Deseret. It was the first institution of higher education in Utah and was later named the University of Utah in 1892.
