1. In 1634, the first English settlers arrived in Maryland, led by Leonard Calvert. They established a colony on St. Clement's Island in the Potomac River.

2. In 1857, Dred Scott, a slave who had lived in St. Louis, Missouri, for several years with his owner, filed a lawsuit in federal court seeking his freedom. On March 6, 1857, the Supreme Court issued its decision in the case of Dred Scott v. Sandford, ruling that Scott was not entitled to his freedom because he was not a U.S. citizen.

3. On March 6, 1865, the Maryland General Assembly voted to abolish slavery in the state. The state had remained in the Union during the Civil War, but slavery had still existed within its borders.

4. In 1913, the Woman Suffrage Procession took place in Washington, D.C. Many suffragettes from Maryland participated in the event, which attracted national attention and helped to promote the cause of women's suffrage.

5. On March 6, 1957, the US Army Chemical Center was officially transferred from Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland to the newly established Army Chemical Center at Aberdeen Proving Ground, also in Maryland. The center was responsible for the research, development, and testing of chemical and biological weapons.
