1. In 1877, a fire destroyed most of Virginia City, a prominent mining town in Nevada. The fire started on March 6 and was caused by a lit cigar igniting a mattress in a hotel. The fire spread quickly and destroyed over 2,000 buildings, causing millions of dollars in damage.

2. The Hoover Dam, one of the largest dams in the world, began construction on March 6, 1931. The dam spans the Colorado River and provides hydroelectric power to several states as well as irrigation water for farms in the southwest.

3. On March 6, 1945, a B-24 bomber crashed into a mountain near Las Vegas. The plane was carrying 23 passengers, including a group of prominent businessmen, and all onboard were killed. 4. In 1973, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) basketball team made their first appearance in the NCAA men's basketball tournament. The team, coached by Jerry Tarkanian, went on to make several appearances in the tournament and eventually won the championship in 1990.

5. In 2007, the Montelago Village Resort in Henderson, Nevada was opened to the public. The luxury resort is located on Lake Las Vegas and features a marina, golf course, and several restaurants and shops. The resort has since undergone several renovations and is still a popular destination for tourists visiting the Las Vegas area.
