1. In 1867, the Minnesota legislature passed an act to establish the University of Minnesota, which would later become one of the largest and most prestigious universities in the country.

2. On March 7, 1887, a great blizzard struck Minnesota and parts of the Dakotas, causing widespread hardship and loss of life. The storm, which came to be known as the "Schoolhouse Blizzard," caught many people by surprise and left them stranded in their homes or stuck in snowdrifts.

3. In 1951, the Pillsbury Bake-Off competition was held in Minneapolis for the first time. The Bake-Off, which began in 1949, quickly became a national event and helped to popularize many classic American recipes.

4. On March 7, 1971, the Minnesota North Stars played their final game at the old Met Center in Bloomington before moving to Dallas in 1993. The North Stars were one of the first professional sports teams in Minnesota and had a loyal fan base throughout their history.

5. In 2017, the new U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis hosted its first major sporting event, a soccer match between Minnesota United and the Atlanta United. The stadium, which was built to replace the aging Metrodome, has since become one of the premier sports venues in the country and has hosted several major events, including the Super Bowl and NCAA Final Four.
