1. Nevada was officially admitted as a state to the United States on October 31, 1864, but several steps needed to be taken to make it official. One of those steps was the ratification of a state constitution. On March 9, 1864, the Nevada State Constitution was approved by a vote of 6,947 to 1,761.

2. On March 9, 1954, the city of Las Vegas was incorporated. Prior to this date, Las Vegas had been an unincorporated town within Clark County. The incorporation allowed the city to form its own government and take control of its own policies and services.

3. The first ever Reno Air Races were held on March 9, 1964. The race, known as the National Championship Air Races, takes place every year at the Reno-Stead Airport and features a variety of aircraft competitions, including a high-speed pylon race.

4. On March 9, 2004, the Nevada State Museum in Carson City opened its doors to the public. The museum is located in the former Carson City Mint building and features exhibits on the state's natural, cultural, and geological history.

5. In 2013, on March 9th, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed a bill into law that legalized online poker within the state. This made Nevada the first state to legalize online poker since the federal government cracked down on the industry in 2011. The move allowed Nevada residents to play online poker legally and paved the way for other states to follow suit.
