1. On May 10, 1898, state lawmakers established the Colorado State Veterans Home in Monte Vista, Colorado. The facility provided care and assistance to veterans and their families for over a century, until it was closed in 2013 due to budget cuts.

2. The town of Silverton, Colorado, was founded on May 10, 1874, during a mining boom in the area. Originally named Baker's Park, the town quickly grew as silver and gold were discovered in the surrounding mountains. Today, Silverton is a popular tourist destination, known for its scenic railroad and outdoor recreation opportunities.
