1. In 1858, Minnesota was officially admitted to the Union as the 32nd state. May 10 marks the anniversary of this event.
2. On May 10, 1965, the Minnesota Twins played their first game at Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington. The Twins defeated the New York Yankees 5-1 in front of a crowd of 44,000 fans.
3. In 1970, St. Cloud State University held its first graduation ceremony on May 10. This tradition has continued every year since then.
4. May 10, 1987, was a day of severe weather in Minnesota, with multiple tornadoes touching down in different parts of the state. One tornado in Edina caused significant damage to homes and businesses.
5. In 2014, a memorial was dedicated in St. Paul to honor the victims of the 35W Bridge collapse, which occurred on August 1, 2007. May 10 was chosen as the date of the dedication because it was the birthday of one of the victims, Peter Hausmann.
