3. In 1921, the West Virginia State Capitol building in Charleston was dedicated. The building, which was designed by Cass Gilbert, features a gold-plated dome and is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the state.

4. On May 10, 1944, the USS West Virginia, which had been damaged during the attack on Pearl Harbor, was re-launched and returned to service in the Pacific theater during World War II.
