1. In 1906, the town of Greybull was officially incorporated in Wyoming. Named after a local landmark, the Greybull River, the small town was an important stop on the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad line.

2. On May 11, 1937, the Blackwater Fire broke out in the Medicine Bow National Forest in southeastern Wyoming. Over the next several days, the devastating wildfire burned over 700,000 acres and destroyed numerous homes and buildings before it was finally brought under control.

3. Wyoming native Nellie Tayloe Ross became the first female governor in the United States when she was elected as Wyoming's 14th governor in 1924. Ross served one term as governor before being appointed as the Director of the United States Mint by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

4. The University of Wyoming was established on May 11, 1886, with just 42 students and five faculty members. Today, the university boasts a student body of over 12,000 and is a leading research institution in the state.

5. In 1869, John Wesley Powell and his team of explorers began an historic journey down the Green and Colorado Rivers. Over the next three months, Powell navigated through the dangerous rapids of the Grand Canyon and made many important geographical and scientific discoveries that helped shape our understanding of the American West.
