1. In 1806, Zebulon Pike led an expedition into present-day Colorado and saw the Colorado Rockies for the first time on May 14th. He named the peak now known as Pike's Peak after himself.

2. On May 14, 1861, John D. "Doc" Holliday arrived in Denver, Colorado. Doc Holliday was known as a gambler and gunfighter, and he became famous for his friendship with Wyatt Earp during the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona.

3. In 1890, the Colorado State Capitol was completed and dedicated on May 14th. The building features a dome made of gold leaf and a grand staircase made of white marble.

4. On May 14, 1918, the U.S. Army established Camp Carson in Colorado Springs. The camp was named after legendary frontiersman Kit Carson and served as a training ground for soldiers during World War I.

5. In 1967, the Denver Nuggets joined the American Basketball Association (ABA) on May 14th. The team played in the ABA until 1976 when they joined the NBA. Today, the Nuggets are one of the most popular sports teams in Colorado.
