The railroad would become one of the largest and most important transportation networks in the United States, connecting Pennsylvania to other states and revolutionizing the way goods and people were moved across the country.

3. In 1905, the Williamsport Billies minor league baseball team played their inaugural game in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The team went on to have a successful season, winning the league championship.

4. On May 15, 1940, the Scranton Transit Company unveiled a new fleet of trolley cars, featuring modern amenities like air conditioning and radio systems. The trolley cars would serve Scranton and the surrounding areas for several decades, before being phased out in the 1950s and 60s.

5. In 1967, a fire broke out at the R.E. Dietz Company factory in Fullerton, Pennsylvania. The company had been manufacturing lanterns and other lighting fixtures since the 19th century, but the fire destroyed much of the plant and forced the company to close its doors permanently. Despite this setback, Dietz lanterns remain highly collectible and are prized by antique enthusiasts today.
