1. On May 22, 1826, Kentucky's first prison opened in Frankfort. The prison was originally built to hold 200 inmates, but by the 1940s, it was holding over a thousand.

2. On May 22, 1938, legendary baseball player, Jackie Robinson played in a game for the Louisville Colonels, a minor league team in Kentucky. This was part of Robinson's journey to breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball.

3. On May 22, 1968, Kentucky Governor Louie B. Nunn signed a bill allowing the state's Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to establish a statewide wildlife management plan. This plan helped to protect and conserve Kentucky's native wildlife populations.
