1. In 1788, the Georgia General Assembly ratified the United States Constitution, becoming the fourth state to do so. This paved the way for Georgia to become a full-fledged member of the new nation.

3. In 1861, the county of Cobb, Georgia, voted to secede from the United States and join the Confederacy at the start of the American Civil War. Cobb County was one of many counties in Georgia to do so, and the state as a whole became a key player in the southern secessionist movement.

4. On May 23, 1927, aviator Charles Lindbergh made a stop in Atlanta during his famous solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. He greeted thousands of well-wishers at the old Candler Field (now Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport) before continuing on his journey.

5. In 1962, civil rights activists in Albany, Georgia, held a historic mass meeting at Shiloh Baptist Church. The meeting was part of the Albany Movement, a nonviolent protest campaign against segregation and discrimination in the city. The movement was a pivotal moment in the civil rights struggle in Georgia and the United States.
