1. In 1806, the United States Congress authorized the construction of a military road from Nashville, Tennessee to New Orleans, Louisiana. This road, known as the Natchez Trace, was significant in Louisiana history because it improved trade and transportation between Louisiana and other regions of the country.

2. On May 30, 1868, Louisiana was readmitted to the United States following the Civil War. Louisiana had seceded from the Union in 1861, and the state was readmitted after it agreed to ratify the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution.

3. In 1927, the Great Mississippi Flood devastated parts of Louisiana and other states along the Mississippi River. The flood, which lasted from April to August of that year, caused widespread damage and forced hundreds of thousands of people from their homes.

4. On May 30, 1967, Robert H. Brooks founded the first Hooters restaurant in Clearwater, Florida. Although Hooters is not exclusively a Louisiana brand, the company has a significant presence in Louisiana with several locations throughout the state.

5. In 2012, Louisiana's first female governor, Kathleen Blanco, was diagnosed with cancer. Blanco served as governor from 2004 to 2008, and she was widely recognized for her leadership during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Blanco passed away on August 18, 2019.
