1. In 1836, the Battle of San Jacinto took place in present-day Harris County, Texas, resulting in a decisive victory for the Texian army led by General Sam Houston over the Mexican army led by General Antonio López de Santa Anna.
2. On May 7, 1846, the United States declared war on Mexico after tensions over the annexation of Texas led to a dispute over the southern boundary of the state. This marked the beginning of the Mexican-American War, which lasted until February 2, 1848.
3. In 1928, a tornado outbreak struck parts of Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas, causing extensive damage and claiming more than 30 lives. Among the areas affected was the town of Sulphur Springs, where a powerful tornado destroyed several homes and businesses.
