1. Arizona became a state: November 1, 1911, was a historic day for Arizona as it became the 48th state to join the United States of America. Arizona was previously a territory before it gained statehood.
2. The first Arizona State Capitol: The first Arizona State Capitol building was completed on November 1, 1900. It was a brick building with a dome that looked like the United States Capitol dome. The building was eventually replaced by the current State Capitol building in 1974.
3. The Tusayan Ruins: On November 1, 1928, the Tusayan Ruins in northern Arizona were declared a National Monument. The Tusayan Ruins are the remains of an ancient Puebloan village that was inhabited between AD 1185 and 1225.
4. Arizona's first brewery: Arizona's first brewery, the Phoenix Brewery, was established on November 1, 1888. The brewery was located in downtown Phoenix and had a capacity of 25 barrels per day.
5. Tempe Normal School: On November 1, 1899, the Tempe Normal School opened its doors to students. The school was established to train teachers and is now known as Arizona State University. It is the largest university in Arizona and has campuses in Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa.
