1. Nebraska officially became a state on November 1, 1867, after being granted statehood by President Andrew Johnson. This marked the end of years of territorial status and Nebraska became the 37th state in the nation.

2. The Nebraska Cornhuskers played their first football game on November 1, 1890, against the University of Iowa. The game was played in Omaha, Nebraska and Iowa won by a score of 22-0. This marked the beginning of Nebraska's storied football history.

3. On November 1, 1903, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) played its first homecoming football game. The game was against the University of Minnesota and was played at Antelope Park in Lincoln. UNL won the game 10-0.

4. Nebraska's first radio station, KFAB, began broadcasting on November 1, 1922. The station was owned by the Omaha Daily News and was one of the first commercial radio stations in the country.

5. On November 1, 1946, Omaha native Johnny Carson made his debut as a radio announcer on WOW Radio in Omaha. He later went on to become one of the most famous television hosts of all time, with "The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson" running from 1962 to 1992.
