1. In 1727, the first Baptist church in Rhode Island was constituted in South Kingstown. The church, now known as the First Baptist Church of Wakefield, continues to serve the community to this day.
2. On November 13, 1989, the "House That Ruth Built" – Yankee Stadium in New York City – was dismantled in part by a Rhode Island-based demolition company, the Dimeo Construction Company.
3. Rhode Island's first African American legislator, Walter Rayfield, was elected on November 13, 1979. Rayfield represented Providence in the state House of Representatives.
4. On November 13, 1847, Rhode Island became the first state in the US to hold a referendum on the issue of suffrage for women. The measure was defeated.
5. The USS Rhode Island, a US Navy battleship, was launched on November 13, 1904. The ship would go on to serve in both World War I and World War II before being decommissioned in 1947.
