3. In 2003, a magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck central California, causing significant damage and shaking buildings as far away as San Francisco. The earthquake was centered near the city of Paso Robles and caused two fatalities and dozens of injuries.

4. The first McDonald's restaurant in California opened on November 17, 1940, in San Bernardino. The restaurant was owned by Richard and Maurice McDonald and featured a streamlined system for making and serving hamburgers and fries.

5. On November 17, 1934, the infamous outlaw couple Bonnie and Clyde made their first appearance in California, robbing a gas station in San Bernardino. The couple went on to commit a string of robberies and murders across the United States before being fatally shot by law enforcement in 1934.
