4. On November 18, 1803, the University of the State of New York was established. This institution, which later became known as the State University of New York (SUNY) is now comprised of 64 campuses across the state, including Rutgers University in New Brunswick.
5. On November 18, 2003, New Jersey made history by becoming the first state to ban the use of handheld cell phones while driving. The law went into effect in 2004 and has since been adopted by several other states.
