1. On November 19, 1861, the USS Massachusetts, a steam frigate of the Union Navy, captured CSS Fanny, a Confederate schooner, off the coast of Oregon. This was part of the Union blockade of the Southern ports during the American Civil War.

2. In 1873, the first railroad bridge over the Columbia River was opened between Oregon and Washington. Known as the Oregon Railway and Navigation Company Bridge, it was a major accomplishment of engineering at that time and facilitated transportation between the two states.

3. On November 19, 1908, the US Forest Service was established in Oregon. This led to the creation of several national forests in the state, including the Mount Hood National Forest, the Siskiyou National Forest, and the Deschutes National Forest.
