1. The first American cotton mill was founded in New Hampshire on November 2, 1793. Samuel Slater built the mill in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and employed local families, launching the cotton industry in America.
2. The Boston and Maine Railroad opened its first line into New Hampshire on November 2, 1842. The railroad boosted the state's economy by connecting it to Boston, the largest city in New England.
3. On November 2, 1889, the New Hampshire state flag was adopted. It features the state seal on a field of blue. The seal depicts a rising sun over a mountain with the state motto "Live Free or Die" written below.
4. The Appalachian Trail, which stretches over 2,190 miles from Georgia to Maine, passes through New Hampshire. On November 2, 1937, the Appalachian Trail was officially completed in New Hampshire's Mahoosuc Range.
5. On November 2, 2004, New Hampshire voters elected their first female governor, Democrat Maggie Hassan. Hassan served from 2013 to 2017 and later became a United States Senator representing New Hampshire.
