1. The town of Pittsfield, New Hampshire was incorporated on November 20, 1782. Located in the southeastern part of the state, Pittsfield has a rich history in manufacturing and was once a center for shoe production.

2. On November 20, 1848, New Hampshire became the first state to have a woman serve as a justice of the peace. Esther Tilton was appointed to the post by Governor Samuel Dinsmoor Jr.

3. The first ever American football game between two colleges in New Hampshire was held on November 20, 1875. The game was played between Dartmouth College and Harvard University, with Harvard winning 4-0.

4. The famous American poet Robert Frost was born in San Francisco, California on November 20, 1874, but he spent much of his life living in New Hampshire. In fact, he is buried in the town of Bennington, New Hampshire.

5. On November 20, 1949, New Hampshire native Christa McAuliffe was born. McAuliffe was a high school teacher who was selected to be a payload specialist for the space shuttle Challenger in 1986. Tragically, the Challenger exploded shortly after liftoff, killing all seven crew members, including McAuliffe.
