1. On November 20, 1917, the first recorded automobile fatality in Portland, Oregon, occurred. A 19-year-old driver crashed into a streetcar, killing himself and injuring several others.

2. In 1970, the Oregon State Board of Higher Education approved the establishment of a medical school at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center in Portland, which later became the Oregon Health & Science University.

3. November 20, 1986, is the date that D.B. Cooper, the only unsolved airplane hijacking case in US history, marked its 15th anniversary. Cooper hijacked Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305 on November 24, 1971, and parachuted out of the plane with $200,000 in ransom money over Washington State.

4. On November 20, 2006, the famous Portland Oregon sign “Made in Oregon” was taken down from the west facade of the Meier & Frank building. It was moved to the ground floor of the building's north side and replaced with the Macy's sign.

5. In 2015, Oregon Governor Kate Brown signed into law Senate Bill 1541, which requires the state's largest public pension fund to divest from coal by 2020. It made Oregon the first state in the US to require divestment from companies whose primary business involves the extraction, production, or refining of coal.
