1. On November 25, 1783, the first American balloon flight took place in Philadelphia. Frenchman Jean-Pierre Blanchard and American John Jeffries made the journey from Walnut Street to near Woodbury, New Jersey, becoming the first people to fly over North America.

2. In 1867, the Pennsylvania State Agricultural Society held its annual fair in Harrisburg, drawing a crowd of over 120,000. The event featured a contest for the best display of agricultural products, as well as exhibits of farm equipment and livestock.

3. On November 25, 1927, the world's first theater with a sound system was opened in Pittsburgh. The Warner Brothers' Warner Theatre had a Vitaphone sound system, which played synchronized sound with films and live shows.

4. In 1981, Pennsylvania Governor Dick Thornburgh declared November 25 as "Tom Ridge Day" in honor of the former congressman and governor. Ridge served as Pennsylvania's governor from 1995 to 2001, and later became the first Secretary of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush.

5. November 25, 2015 marked the 100th anniversary of Einstein's theory of general relativity. To celebrate the occasion, the University of Pennsylvania held a symposium featuring talks on the latest developments in astrophysics and cosmology.
