1. On November 7, 1787, Delaware became the first state to ratify the United States Constitution. The state later became known as “The First State” for this reason.

2. In 1922, the DuPont Company incorporated the first nylon plant in Seaford, Delaware. This plant would later become one of the largest of its kind in the world, setting a precedent for the production of synthetic materials.

3. On November 7, 1949, the Delaware Memorial Bridge opened to the public. This iconic suspension bridge spans the Delaware River and connects Delaware to New Jersey. At the time of its opening, it was the world’s longest twin-span suspension bridge.

4. In 1972, Delaware Senator Joe Biden was elected to the United States Senate at the age of 29. This made him one of the youngest people ever to serve in that role, and he would later become one of the most influential and well-known senators in American history.

5. On November 7, 2018, Democrat Lisa Blunt Rochester was re-elected to represent Delaware in the United States House of Representatives. She was the first African American woman to be elected to Congress from Delaware, and has since become a vocal advocate for social justice and equality.
