1. On October 11, 1792, Kentucky officially became a state, joining the United States as the 15th state. The state's name comes from the Native American word "Ken-tah-ten," which means "land of tomorrow."

5. On October 11, 1992, the Kentucky State Park's system celebrated their 50th anniversary. The state park system was established in 1942 with the opening of Natural Bridge State Resort Park and now includes 49 parks throughout the state, attracting millions of visitors each year.
