1. In 1914, the Salt Lake City and County Building was completed. The building was designed by architect John C. Craig and served as both the city and county government headquarters until 1994.

2. The University of Utah's Rice-Eccles Stadium, which is currently the home of the Utah Utes football team, opened on October 14, 1998. The stadium held its first game on November 14 of that year.

3. On October 14, 1947, Hollywood stars Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were married in Salt Lake City. The couple had previously been married to other people before they met on the set of a movie.

4. On October 14, 1861, the first telegraph line in Utah was completed. The line connected Salt Lake City to California and helped to establish a more efficient means of communication in the region.

5. The Utah Symphony, which is currently based in Salt Lake City, gave its first performance on October 14, 1940. The orchestra has since become one of the most acclaimed symphonies in the United States and has performed around the world.
