1. In 1885, the town of LaPlata, Missouri was incorporated. Originally known as "Atlanta", the town was renamed to LaPlata after a popular French play of the time. Today, LaPlata is known for its annual "Railsplitting Festival," which celebrates the town's history as a railroad town.

2. In 1904, the first World Series game ever played in St. Louis took place on October 15th between the New York Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals. The Giants were victorious in a 6-4 victory.

3. In 1926, the US Highway 66 was officially established, running from Chicago to Santa Monica, California. A small section of the highway still exists in Missouri, known as "Route 66 State Park."

4. On this day in 1950, the "Jayhawkers" television show premiered on ABC. The show was produced by Gene Autry and followed the adventures of a group of settlers in the western United States.
