2. On October 18, 1867, the first successful cattle drive from Texas to Kansas arrived at Abilene. 3. In 1892, the Texas State Fair opened in Dallas for the first time. The fairgrounds covered 80 acres and featured exhibits on agriculture, industry, and technology. Today, the Texas State Fair is one of the largest and most popular state fairs in the country.

On October 18, 1967, the Houston Oilers of the American Football League (AFL) defeated the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL) in the first regular-season game between the two leagues. This historic game paved the way for the eventual merger of the AFL and NFL, creating the modern-day National Football League.

5. In 1991, George H.W. Bush dedicated the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. The library and museum commemorate the life and legacy of President Johnson, who was born in Texas, served as a U.S. Senator and Vice President, and signed key legislation such as the Civil Rights Act and Medicare.
