1. On October 18, 1867, the Treaty of Medicine Lodge was signed between the U.S. government and several Plains Indian tribes, including the Cheyenne, Arapaho, and Kiowa. The treaty established a reservation for the tribes in western Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma) and promised them a perpetual supply of food and other resources in exchange for their agreement to live on the reservation.

2. On October 18, 1876, the Battle of Cedar Creek occurred near the present-day town of Sheridan. The battle was part of the Black Hills War, a conflict between the U.S. government and Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne warriors over control of the Black Hills in present-day South Dakota. The battle was a significant victory for the U.S. Army and helped to bring the war to a close.

3. On October 18, 1924, the University of Wyoming dedicated its new football stadium, War Memorial Stadium, with a game against the University of Montana. The stadium was built as a memorial to Wyoming veterans of World War I and has since become a landmark on the university campus.

4. On October 18, 1952, the first commercial oil well in the Powder River Basin was completed near Buffalo, Wyoming. The well was drilled by Stanolind Oil and Gas Company, and the discovery of oil in the Powder River Basin led to an oil boom in the region that lasted for several decades.

5. On October 18, 1984, Wyoming resident Richard Houck set a world record by driving his tractor across the United States from San Francisco to New York City in just 68 hours and 47 minutes. Houck's journey covered more than 3,100 miles and he averaged a speed of over 45 miles per hour.
