1. In 1876, the first steam engine arrived in Hawaii. The engine was named "Hawaiian Gazette" and was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was imported to Hawaii to help transport sugar cane.

2. In 1890, the Kamehameha Day celebration was officially established in Hawaii. The holiday honors Kamehameha I, the first king of Hawaii.

3. In 1935, the opening of the Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu was celebrated. The school was originally started by the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions as the Mills School for Boys.

4. In 1948, Hawaii Air National Guard was established. The guard was originally part of the Hawaii Air National Guard and is now part of the Hawaii National Guard.

5. In 2007, the Kahoolawe Island Reserve Commission was established in Hawaii. The commission was established to help protect and preserve Kahoolawe Island, which was used as a target for military training for many years.
