1. In 1861, the first of three battles occurred in the Civil War in which Wisconsin troops participated. The Battle of Ball's Bluff in Virginia resulted in a Union defeat, and among the casualties was Colonel Edward D. Baker of Oregon, a close friend of President Abraham Lincoln.
2. In 1886, the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds in West Allis officially opened to the public. The fairgrounds have since become a popular venue for events and concerts.
3. In 1918, the University of Wisconsin-Madison announced its plans to establish a School of Commerce, which would later become the Wisconsin School of Business.
4. In 1966, the Milwaukee Bucks played their first ever regular-season game, defeating the Chicago Bulls 104-96 at the Milwaukee Arena (now UW–Milwaukee Panther Arena).

In 2013, a bicentennial celebration was held in Prairie du Chien to commemorate the 1813 Treaty of Ghent, which ended the War of 1812 and confirmed U.S. sovereignty over the land that would become Wisconsin. The treaty was negotiated in Ghent, Belgium, but the signing ceremony took place in what is now the city of Ghent, New York.
