1. On October 24, 1925, the city of Hialeah was incorporated in Miami-Dade County. Today, Hialeah is known for its horse racing industry and is home to one of the largest malls in the country, the Westland Mall.

2. In 1931, a hurricane hit Tampa Bay, causing significant damage to the area. The storm, which came to be known as the "Great Depression Hurricane," resulted in the deaths of over 30 people and caused widespread destruction.

3. October 24, 1949 marked the first flight of the Convair B-36 "Peacemaker" bomber, which was manufactured by the Convair Division of General Dynamics in Fort Worth, Texas. The plane was used by the United States Air Force during the Cold War and was one of the largest operational aircraft of its time.

4. On October 24, 1987, the Florida International University football team played its first official game against C.W. Post on the university's campus in Miami. Today, FIU has one of the largest enrollments in the state of Florida and is home to a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs.

5. In 2018, the Florida Panthers hockey team celebrated its 25th anniversary as a franchise. The team, which is based in Sunrise, Florida, has made it to the Stanley Cup Finals once in its history (in 1996) and boasts a dedicated fan base throughout the state.
