3. In 1960, a Ku Klux Klan rally was held in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The rally was held in response to the enrollment of the first African American student, Vivian Malone, at the University of Alabama. Despite the Klan's efforts to intimidate Malone and other African American students, they successfully integrated the university.
4. In 1983, George Wallace was inaugurated as governor of Alabama for an unprecedented fourth term. Wallace was known for his conservative views and staunch opposition to the civil rights movement. However, by the time of his fourth term, he had moderated many of his views and worked to rebuild relationships with African American leaders.
5. In 2014, the Alabama Crimson Tide football team defeated the Tennessee Volunteers 34-20 in Tuscaloosa. The win was part of Alabama's successful season that saw them win the SEC championship and play in the inaugural College Football Playoff.
