1. In 1864, the Idaho Territory was established on October 26th by President Abraham Lincoln, which laid the foundation for the future state of Idaho. At the time, the territory composed a large portion of modern-day Idaho, as well as Montana and Wyoming.

2. In 1918, a deadly influenza pandemic swept across the United States, and Idaho was hit particularly hard. On October 26th, the Idaho Statesman reported that 73 new cases of influenza had been reported in Boise the previous day, bringing the total to 437 cases with 10 deaths.

3. In 1978, the Idaho National Guard was deployed to respond to a major fire in Yellowstone National Park. The blaze had been burning for months and had already consumed over 400,000 acres of forestland. On October 26th, the National Guard helped to contain the fire and prevent further damage.

4. On October 26th, 2009, Idaho experienced a 6.0 magnitude earthquake in the southeastern part of the state, near the town of Challis. While there were no major injuries or damage reported, the tremors were felt as far away as Montana and Utah.

5. In 2018, Idaho made history by electing its first female Native American state legislator on October 26th. Paulette Jordan, a member of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe, won her campaign for the Idaho gubernatorial race, making her the first Native American woman to win a major party nomination for governor in any state. Although she ultimately lost the election, Jordan's candidacy made a significant impact in Idaho politics.
