1. On October 26, 1864, the Battle of Cedar Creek occurred in what is now known as Montana's Beaverhead County. This battle was fought during the ongoing conflict between the United States Army and various Native American tribes in the area.
2. In 1903, the Montana State Capitol building was completed and dedicated in Helena on October 26th. The Capitol building has since become an iconic symbol of the state, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
