1. On October 27, 1838, the Cherokee Nation began its forced removal from their homeland in Georgia to Indian Territory, now present-day Oklahoma, in what became known as the Trail of Tears. Thousands of Cherokee died on this journey due to starvation, exposure, and disease.
2. On October 27, 1889, the first official Oklahoma Land Run took place. Over 50,000 people rushed to claim land in what was then known as Indian Territory, opening the door for white settlers to take over Native American lands.

4. On October 27, 1948, Aloysius Leon Hieger became the first person to be executed by the electric chair in Oklahoma. Hieger was convicted of first-degree murder for killing a Tulsa police officer during a burglary attempt.
5. On October 27, 1988, Oklahoma State University's football team lost their first game of the season to the University of Oklahoma in what became known as the "Bedlam" rivalry. This annual football rivalry between the two universities is one of the oldest and most intense in college football.
