1. In 1903, Buffalo Bill Cody inaugurated the Irma Hotel in Cody, Wyoming. The hotel was named after his daughter and is still in operation today.
2. In 1936, the Colter Bay Lodge was completed in Grand Teton National Park. The lodge was designed by acclaimed architect Robert Reamer, who also designed the iconic Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park.
3. In 1947, the first uranium ore in Wyoming was discovered in the Gas Hills region of Fremont County. This discovery led to a uranium boom in the state and Wyoming became a major producer of the mineral.
4. In 1958, the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle became the first newspaper in the state to publish a Sunday edition. The newspaper has been in operation since 1884 and serves the Cheyenne area.
5. In 1988, a major winter storm hit Wyoming, causing widespread power outages and closing roads and schools throughout the state. The storm, known as the Halloween Blizzard, dumped up to three feet of snow in some areas and caused millions of dollars in damages.
