1. In 1835, the Battle of Concepcion took place near San Antonio, Texas. It was one of the first battles of the Texas Revolution and resulted in a victory for the Texian army over Mexican forces.
2. In 1893, the cornerstone was laid for the Texas State Capitol building in Austin. It remains the largest state capitol building in the United States.
3. In 1916, the University of Texas at Austin dedicated the Main Building, which is now known as the iconic tower on campus. It stands at 307 feet tall and is a prominent symbol of the university.
4. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy visited San Antonio and gave a speech at Brooks Air Force Base. It was his last visit to Texas before he was assassinated in Dallas the following year.
5. In 1981, the Texas Rangers defeated the New York Yankees in game 6 of the World Series, winning their first- and only- championship in franchise history. The victory sparked joy and celebration throughout the state of Texas.
