1. In 1935, the first commercial airline flight between Denver and San Francisco took place. United Airlines inaugurated the route with a Boeing 247 aircraft, which could carry up to 10 passengers at a cruising speed of 155 mph.

2. In 1961, the historic Stanley Hotel in Estes Park was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel, which opened in 1909, has hosted many famous guests, including Stephen King, who was inspired to write his novel "The Shining" after staying at the hotel.

3. In 1971, the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds and Event Center officially opened in Aurora. The 200-acre complex hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including the annual Arapahoe County Fair.

4. In 1991, Colorado state trooper David Aldridge was shot to death during a traffic stop in Jefferson County. His death led to the establishment of the David R. Aldridge Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides college scholarships to the children of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

5. In 2012, Hurricane Sandy caused widespread damage and power outages throughout the eastern United States, including Colorado. The storm, which had weakened by the time it reached Colorado, caused blizzard conditions and heavy snowfall in some areas.
