1. In 1735, the first Masonic Lodge in Delaware was established in Wilmington. Named Lodge No. 2, it was the second Masonic lodge to be established in the United States.

2. On October 30, 1780, American Revolutionary War hero and Delaware native Colonel John Haslet was killed in the Battle of Camden. Haslet had served in the Continental Army since the beginning of the war and was commanding a regiment at the time of his death.

3. The University of Delaware was established on October 30, 1833, as the Newark College. It was the first institution of higher learning in the state and was initially focused on the education of teachers.

4. On October 30, 1891, the first Delaware State Fair opened in Dover. The fair was originally held to promote agriculture in the state and has since grown to become one of the largest annual events in Delaware.

5. Delaware native and inventor Oliver Evans was born on October 30, 1755. Evans is credited with developing several important machines, including the automated flour mill, which revolutionized the milling industry.
